Drill Team Fun

Well, another school year has started, so that means football season! The Elleves have been busy performing and attending MMHS football games.

It all started on August 12th at the annual Maroon/Gold football game. I can't believe another school year is here already! Here are some pictures from a few of the events the drill team has been involved in lately:

The drill parents get t-shirts to wear to games and competitions. I decided to get Kendrick one this year. It was a little big on him, but he wore it to the 1st official home game for Maple Mountain. Here are some pictures I took of him in his MMHS Elleves shirt:

On September 2nd, Maple Mountain played Payson at Payson. We had been "sister teams" with the PHS Paysetters at BDT Camp this past summer and we had learned some of the same routines. Payson invited us to perform the camp dance at the game. We faced our crowd and they faced their crowd. It was a fun experience, especially since Payson was where I taught before I went to Maple Mountain. And the Paysetter coaches, Chelsea Judd and Ashley Hendrickson, were former Paysetters themselves and I was their coach!

On September 9th, Maple Mountain played Springville at Springville. The Springville drill team, the D'Velles, invited us to an ice cream party before the game started. It was fun to meet with them and get to know them a little bit.

The game was awesome because Maple Mountain won! Oh, I forgot to mention, MMHS won the Payson game too!

On September 16th, we had a home game and wouldn't you know it, there was a downpour that started about 3:30 p.m. and lasted until about 6 p.m. Lovely--rain makes performing on the grass football field very slick and muddy!

The rain stopped, and so we decided to chance it and dance anyway. We were performing our hip hop routine in our new costumes. It looked so good, even with the conditions. We did have one girl slip and "fall" into position! But, I felt like the team did pretty good considering the field conditions!

One bad thing--I didn't take any pictures!

Then, September 19 - 22, we had our annual Jr. Drill Clinic. It was a big success this year! We had so many girls! And we started a boys hip hop class that went well too! We had around 130 participants! The Elleves did a great job with the teaching and choreography for the clinic. I also thought the boys hip hop class was great too.

Here's a few pics from Jr. Drill:

We had a "team lunch"--everyone brought their lunch and sat together outside and ate together. It was a great day for a picnic!

We still have two more home football games and three away games. Then it will be full-force in preparing for competition!
