Our last home MMHS football game was on October 17 with Salem Hills. We had another drill team friendship party with the Salem Hills drill team prior to the football game. At first when I mentioned to the officers that we would have a drill team party with all of the teams in our region that we played at home, they were a little bit skeptical of having a party with Salem. Afterall, they had beaten us last year at Region and there were "feelings" between our two teams in the past. Not to mention, my assistant coach used to be the assistant coach at Salem. So, the party may have some ackward moments. But, I decided that we needed to put the past behind us and have a party.
So, we did, and everything turned out great. I think a lot of the girls want to be friends and keep our competition on the dance floor only.
Playing a game - "do you know your neighbor?"
My team wore their pink BDT halftime shirts because the game was a cancer awareness game.
Fun times! We had soups and pumpkin pie--a perfect fall combination.
We performed our hip hop routine "I'm Dat Chick". Here we are getting pumped up for the performance!
Last minute words of advice and encouragement!
"Come on help us out . . .
Team cheer -" ...cause you and me can become one!"
Well, we went outside, just like we usually do, a few minutes before halftime. All of a sudden all of the field lights go out. It was a blackout! What the? The lights stayed off for a while. I wasn't sure if we were going to perform or what. They announced that they were trying to find out what happenen. So, they had power to run the sound, but the field lights wouldn't come on? Weird?
The girls were a little bit cold - so they were in a huddle to keep warm. I wasn't sure if this pic would work or not. But here is their huddle.
Some sat down to keep warm. Don't you love our pink arm bands! Gotta keep with the cancer awareness theme!
I walked up to the sound booth to see what was going on. They still weren't sure. They had sent the teams in to the school for halftime and were going to add the few seconds on to third quarter.
It seemed like we weren't going to be able to perform! All of their hard work and they especially wanted to perform in front of Salem! Then, the lights started coming back on. They take a little while to "warm up". So, we headed out onto the field. By the time we were out there ready to go, the lights were one! Hurray!
Some pics from the performance. We had to wear our practice maroon tops because our new sparkly sequin ones were not ready yet.
Gotta love our "harem" pants. I wasn't so sure about them at first, but I grew to like them.
Oh yeah!
They performed it so good!
"if you're sexy and you know it, then you really gotta show it" - lyrics from our song.
Everybody!
Just before they roll to the floor.
mid roll -
ending
It was a great performance!
I guess the lights went out again during third quarter? I still don't know why or what was causing it. Oh well, my guess is it was some sort of prank! :)
