On Wednesday, October 10, 2012 were the 4A/5A All State Dance/Drill Auditions. This is where all of the drill teams send their top three dancers to audition to become members of the "All State Drill Team".
Shalee Hiskey, Jamie Topham, and Melissa Durtschi were selected to represent our Maple Mountain drill team.
The girls were taught a dance combination and then auditioned it in groups of four in front of judges. I thought my girls did great. Melissa had a little moment where she "forgot" the routine for a second and then she got right back on. I hoped she would get a call back and then do it better the second time. But, she didn't get a call back!
Shalee, on the other hand, kept getting called back. It was kinda strange--I could understand the first call back, but the second and third ones? I was confused as to what the judges were doing. Jamie didn't get a call back either--so that could mean she was a definite YES, or that she was a NO.
Well, after all the call backs, they announced the numbers of the girls that made the all state team. Both Shalee and Jamie made the team.

Showing their bags--ha ha.
I felt bad that one of them didn't make it. That is always hard. But luckily Melissa was a good sport about it and realized what she had done in her audition. She too, wished that she could have had a call back. We decided to stop for some ice cream anyway.
Here they are at Cold Stone--it was yummy!
This year they are having the girls that made the all state teams perform at the State Competition so that will be fun to see all of them perform together. They will also receive certificates and medallions.
