Drill Team Events in September

Drill Team events for the month of September included some awesome halftime performances at football games, Homecoming events, and working concessions at BYU football.  School and drill was in full swing.  Here's some highlights.

I had the fine opportunity to experience what it's like when there's a huge downpour of rain and wind just before a football game is about to start.  There was a rain delay--so we were stuck in our booth for about an hour.  All of the fans headed for shelter under the bleachers and so we were locked in by people. It was a great experience. . . NOT! But we made the most of it and had fun! 

 This year, for the Homecoming Carnival, we did a fish pond.  It was a great success--we ran out of prizes!

 We helped the cheerleaders make signs for Homecoming. 

There was a football with each player's name and number.

 The team also made "Home of a MMHS Elleve" signs to hang on the door of seniors on the drill team's houses.

 The drill team also had lunch together on Friday. 

 They had two performances that day.  We performed the BDT Edge routine, "Bones", in the Homecoming Assembly.  Then for the Homecoming game they performed "Feel This Moment".  This picture is just before we headed outside to the football field.

 The crowd loved our performance.  I think it helped that it was to a familiar song.

 It was a fun energetic routine with some fun visuals.

They did great--too bad MMHS didn't win though.  But, they were playing Pleasant Grove--a very good 5A football team.

 The next week MMHS was playing cross town rival, Spanish Fork.  The drill team had to practice outside in the morning when it was a little bit chilly and windy!  Here's the team huddling under the bleachers trying to stay warm!

 We hosted a friendship party with the Spanish Fork Las Chalitas Drill Team before the game started.

 It was fun.  They are back in our region, after being 3A the past two years.

 After eating, both teams went down to the gym to play "Man Overboard".

 It was fun and it appeared like both teams were having a great time.

 You could tell that they loved this routine.

 It was fun to watch them perform.

 I was very proud of them.

Scott's Birthday

Scott turned 48 this year on September 6.  I had birthday balloons delivered to his work in Nephi.  It's always a great surprise!  Plus then everyone at his work knows it's his birthday!  HA HA

Scott took this picture and sent it to me so I could see that he did indeed receive his balloons! 

 That day I made a German chocolate cake complete with the coconut pecan icing.  It was yummy. Luckily I had a "4" and an "8" candle.  We didn't quite have 48 individual candles!

 Kendrick was pretty excited too!

Labor Day Weekend

These first two pictures should have been with the previous post, but I decided to just put them here.  Kendrick is always excited to go to the game at the school.  He likes to cheer for the Eagles and for "the girls" aka the drill team.  Here he is ready to go in his MMHS Elleves shirt.

 He really is a good boy at the games and loves being there.

 

On Sunday, of Labor Day weekend, we went down to my parents house for lunch.  It was good to relax and know that I didn't have school the next day!  Even though we had only been back about a week and a half, it is good to have a small break!

Monday morning, we woke up and went over to Payson to watch the Onion Days Parade and then we took Kendrick to the carnival at the park.

 Kendrick had a lot of fun riding the rides this time.

 He still liked the Merry Go Round.

 But this time he would ride the cars too.  At the Ute Stampede, he wouldn't for some reason.

 He was having a good time!

 Next, he went on the train.

 We tried to get him to ride this at the Ute Stampede and he threw a fit. 

 But he had no problem riding it today!

 Then he pointed over to the dragon roller coaster and said he wanted to ride it.

 We put him on, I think he was a little bit unsure, but it was too late!

 He survived though and said he had fun!

 Monster trucks were next.  This was another ride that he freaked out and wouldn't get on at the Ute Stampede, but he was fine today.

 He had fun and acted like no problem.

 I guess that is how two going on three year olds are.  You just can't predict their behavior!

After the monster trucks we went over to the giant slide and Kendrick went down the slide with Scott.  I didn't get a picture though.  Then we went to Mi Rancherito for lunch.  It was pretty good.  I like the chips and salsa there.  It reminded me of eating lunch there on teacher prep days.  I would go there for lunch with a bunch of the teachers from Payson High.  Those were fun times. 

Being in Payson reminds me of teaching there and all the years I spent there.  It almost seems like a different lifetime.  I have a lot of good memories there.  Especially from all the Labor Day weekends I spent there.  It's fun now because I can choose to go there, I don't have to be there.  But either way, I like going to Payson on Labor Day.  It's a fun way to celebrate the day off.

School Starts!

Well, the week of August 22 had arrived!  We had our last summer technique practice with Savannah Martin on Tuesday, August 20.  This is picture they took with her.  Savannah has been a great technique teacher for the team this summer.  Plus, she is an Elleve alum!

Two days later, we were performing in the opening day/welcome assembly.  It was the first day of school!  The team performed a dance we learned at PDC Camp to "Crazy in Love".  They really had a great performance!

 Here they are in our new maroon lace tops.  I had to get some new things made so we had 24.  Our team is large this year and most of our costumes only have 20.

 

Then on Friday, August 23, MMHS had their first official home football game.  The Elleves performed a dance routine from BDT Camp to "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody".  It was a fun routine and they performed it well.

Yep, summer was over for me, school had started and football was in full swing!

Evening Drive & Ice Cream

One August evening, Kendrick wasn't settling down, so we decided to go for a drive after we had bathed him.  We stopped for ice cream and then took a little drive around Spanish Fork.  It got quiet after a while, and I turned around to see if Kendrick was awake.  This is what I saw:

 He had definitely enjoyed his ice cream and then had fallen asleep.

He didn't even move--he was out!

 

Kendrick does that a lot.  If I need to go somewhere in the afternoon, and he hasn't had his nap, he will fall asleep before I get down to Spanish Fork main street.  We live on 1700 East, so it doesn't take him long to fall asleep.  He definitely is my kid!
